Course Goal: Students will learn to communicate mathematically and make connections within and outside mathematics as they develop conceptual understanding and solve problems. This course addresses all of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for grade 6 (Academic Classes) and grade 6 and 7 mathematics (Pre-Ap Classes).
Supplies: You will need the following supplies daily in math class.
1 Spiral
1- 1" Binder
5 dividers
1 Composition Notebook
Pencils & Erasers
Notebook paper
Expo Markers (dry erase)
Hand Sanitizer
Glue Sticks
In addition, it is suggested that all students bring their own headphones/earbuds for various computer activities we do in class. Students may also bring their various electronic devices to class (BYOT) and we will use them appropriately to reach our learning goals. Students are expected to use those devices for learning only and when I permit their use in class. Grading Policy:
If a student has an excused absence, they have as many days as missed to turn in work.
It is the STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to come to me to find out what was missed.
LATE assignments will not receive full credit.
Only one RETAKE is allowed on summative assessments and must be done within 5 days of the graded assignment being returned. ONLY Students scoring below an 80 are eligible for a redo/retake on summative assessments. They can then earn up to a 80 on their second attempt. Retakes are done in a tutorial session.
Entering the Classroom You are to enter the classroom calmly and quietly. Students who do not do this will be asked to leave the room and reenter as expected.
Arriving Late When you enter the room late, you need not disturb the class. (1) Help the door shut quietly. (2) Place your pass on my desk without interruption. (3)Pick up any handouts for the day before you (4) go quietly to your seat.
Tardy Definition: A student is tardy if he/she is not in the classroom when the bell stops ringing and does not have a pass. Schoolwide Consequences are as follows:
• First Tardy ‐‐ Student receives a warning.
• Second Tardy – 30 minute Detention.
• Third Tardy – 1 hour Detention.
Warm-Up Everyday will begin with a warm-up. It will be graded and kept in your binder under the first tab.
Exiting the Classroom The bell does not dismiss the class, the teacher does. Please do not pack up until the teacher dismisses the class.
Do not leave your seats until the class is dismissed by the teacher.
